With one day to go before the ICOMIA/IFBSO Congress 2019 which will take place in Split in Croatia, we are looking forward to our first ever environmental workshop on Friday, 7th June 2019.
With the help of Peter Franklin, Sustainability Coordinator for METSTRADE, we have put together a varied program of content and invited some guest participants to support the workshop.
Short documentary film, ‘Out of Plastic’ - produced by Cleanwave
An organisation who have set a superb example in the Balearic Islands, one of the world’s leading yachting destinations. By making purified drinking water freely available in key locations across the islands, and providing reusable stainless steel water bottles at friendly prices, the Cleanwave project is a launch-pad contributing towards a global movement against single-use plastic.
Albert Willemsen - ICOMIA
Qualified as an engineer with aerospace and automotive experience, Albert brings over 30 years of specialist knowledge to the Workshop. As Environmental Consultant with ICOMIA he focuses on how the yachting industry impacts upon on the environment, and how it has to comply with international legislation.
Sara-Jane Skinner - BLUE Marine Foundation
BLUE exists to combat over-fishing and the destruction of biodiversity, by delivering practical conservation solutions, including the creation of large-scale marine reserves. As Head of Partnerships, Sara-Jane has been successfully engaging with the leisure marine and superyacht communities, and enlisting their support for such projects.
Madhuri Prabhaker - Plastic Soup Foundation
In 1997 Captain Charles Moore discovered large pieces of plastic floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, for which he coined the term ‘plastic soup.’ The Amsterdam based non-profit organisation are on a mission to ultimately achieve ‘no plastic waste in the water!’ As a Project Leader in the team, Madhuri has been instrumental in the successful outcome of the campaign to prevent plastic microbeads in personal care products from ending up in the sea.
Bengt Wallin - Project Manager Gothenburg Boat Show and IFBSO Treasurer
Bengt will talk about his programme of activities and environmental measures during the recent Batmassan show in Gothenburg.
Jurij Korenc - Executive Director Internautica and IFBSO Executive Committee Member
Jurij devised the #ReThinkPlastic idea and logo and is keen to present proposals for further steps to be taken, and to review / discuss any activities generated by IFBSO member shows.
